An Exciting Start to 2025!
Earlier this year, Kevin Leach from The Brainary, traveled to Cowra Library to deliver a series of interactive STEM and robotics workshops. Over three action-packed days, young learners, library staff, and visitors from neighbouring libraries explored cutting-edge technology, from robotics programming to architectural design with Arckit.
On January 9th, two hands-on STEM workshops sessions introduced participants to robotic programming using Fable Spin and NAO, a humanoid robot that quickly became a crowd favourite.
Approximately 7 to 10 young participants, aged 7 to 14, dove into an exciting hands-on robotics programming experience.
Initially some of the younger attendees needed a little guidance, but with the help of library staff, they quickly got the hang of programming and controlling their robots. Before long, Fable robots were zipping around the library—literally!
NAO stole the show, captivating the audience with dance performances, including:

The highlight? Seeing the youngest participants proudly demonstrate their newfound skills to their parents and grandparents at the end of the session!
On January 10th, the focus shifted to architecture and design with a hands-on Arckit session. Four participants—two younger children and two early teens—explored the fundamentals of structural engineering while building imaginative models.
To keep engagement high, Kevin introduced entertaining architectural challenges, encouraging participants to think beyond traditional designs. The result? A mix of castles, modern structures, and unique creative builds that showcased their growing interest in engineering and design.
Two Cowra Library staff members also joined in to familiarise themselves with Arckit, as the library is set to receive its own kit soon!
The workshops at Cowra Library were a fantastic success, sparking curiosity and excitement for STEM learning among participants of all ages. With interactive robotics programming, engaging architecture challenges, and enthusiastic community support, the event demonstrated the power of hands-on, technology-driven education.
